Embracing Struggle

Some years ago I began a new job. With this came a close working relationship with one particular individual. But soon I found him extremely irritating.

This was mainly down to ‘communication’, such as leaving things unresolved by not talking about them. And this just grew worse overtime.

I needed to turn to God, and soon. Otherwise I’d either quit or go insane!
But His answer surprised me.

God revealed to me the vision of a two-man saw, cutting through a thick log.
One man was pulling and pushing against another doing the same thing on his side. It was like a battle between them, each face frowned in sweat. But in their grappling together, they were getting somewhere as the saw moved deeper, until it cut right through and the job was done.

Let battle commence!
Let battle commence!

What was God saying to me?

There can be victory in the struggle, even between two people on different sides of the same issue. Success depends firstly on their relationship which is governed by personality and attitudes. God pinpointed 3 action points,

  1. Repent of my impatience
  2. Forgive his insensitivity
  3. Pray for a Holy Spirit working relationship

As I did so and persevered, things began to change between us, and as we continued to embrace our struggle, a fruitful partnership became evident.

Glorious fruits of partnership.
Glorious fruits of partnership.

Jesus said,
“Anyone who intends to come with me has to let me lead. You’re not in the driver’s seat—I am. Don’t run from suffering; embrace it. Follow me and I’ll show you how.’’ (Luke 9:23 MSG)
