As I get older, I have found myself with some mental habits that are endangering my close relationship with Jesus and therefore my connection to heaven, both of which I rely heavily upon for daily living.
I'm talking mainly about grumbling and expressing my own opinion.

I'm particularly bad during competitive sports matches such as football, where everybody is the expert pundit. Right?
Well, as natural and acceptable as this sounds, the Holy Spirit is not impressed. You only have to look at God’s reaction to the grumbling ten spies in Numbers 13-14 to find out what He thinks of complainers!
Instead,
"Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure."
Personally, I am determined to deal with these bad habits, so I have put myself on a 'diet'.
A Dietary Metaphor
What do I mean?
Imagine that these complaints and opinions are fatty foods that feed our egos.

Let us take notice of God’s word and go on a diet by cutting them out.
How?
The 3 R's to a Fat Free Diet
Recognise – be aware when you complain or give an opinion
Repent – bring the sin before God and be forgiven
Replace – with God’s nutritious Word
A relevant example from His Word is this,
"Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions.
With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make."
God once said to me, 'If you keep expressing your own opinions, I cannot give you mine.'
So, practicing the 3 R’s allows God’s revelation to come as you clear the way for Him.
